Varca was set up by Marianne Pope in 1999 after living on the Island of Menorca and wearing the Varca sandal, friends suggested that there was no where that you could buy a sandal similar in England.
The Varca sandal can be seen in most areas of Spain, worn by all ages and even worn by the Spanish Royal family. They originated from Menorca and our known locally as ‘Abarcas’, where they were traditionally made from a sole of rubber, often disused tyres, and had one or two pieces of leather sewn onto the sole to fit the foot and ankle and worn by local farmers.
Today our Varcas are still produced by a family business in a small Menorcan village called Ferreries and hand-finished to the highest quality without being mass produced. Marianne’s designs combine the comfort of that original Menorcan sandal keeping the traditional craftsmanship and now bringing them up to date with todays fashion. They come in a range of leathers and nubucks, some of these sourced from Italy and other parts of the world.
The range now includes wedges, espadrilles and sandals for children and men worn for any occasion. There’s something for everyone in a wide range of sizes and colours. Also available are belts, baskets and other fashion accessories.
